Veterans Day and memorial Day go hand in hand. Memorial Day is a United States holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It commemorates armed forces who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include armed forces casualties of any war.

The US military was formed by the second Continental Congress to defend against the British Empire in the American Revolutionary War. The Army, Marine Corps, and Navy were commissioned in 1775, in anticipation of the declaration of independence in 1776. Of course Veterans Day is another way to pay tribute to our exceptional military.
